This is a copy of a tapestry entitled " The Prayer For Victory Before The Battle Of Prestonpans" .
The battle was fought in the year 1745 .The Highland army led by "Bonnie Prince Charlie" routed the
government troops led by General Sir John Cope.
This is the second painting I did, acrylics on a linen base. I was pleasantly surprised when an ex resident of Prestonpans bought it at an exhibition.
This painting was used as a cover frontispiece on the 1990 Summer issue of the" East Lothian Life" magazine
The Famous" Lancaster Bomber" from World War 2
I painted this picture for my late friend Flt. Lt. James King who flew in these planes during the war.

When I was attending this class I wrote the following poem to show my thoughts on moderen art.
The Dead Of Night
The budding artist has been to classes
Read all the books on old past masters
Gone to lectures by well known teachers,
To art galleries , large and small,
He tries them all
Practised washes in different mediums,
Changed his style to suit his mood,
Copies Rubens and Michel Angelo,
But strive as he might it does no good.
He tries once more a different style,
From what he's seen in all his searching
The gift that these old masters had
Could not be learned from any teaching,
Moderen art would be his field.
So with black paint and a single brush,
He would try to paint just what he feels.
The finished painting has just been sold,
For ten thousand pounds to a connoisseur.
The work of a genuis he's been told,
The budding artist, now rich and famous
Success is his, he got it right,
His subject was the dead of night.
