Harlaw hill day care centre was opened in Prestonpans to provide care for elderly clients in a warm and friendly environment The old C.O.O.P. Preston branch shop on East Loan was rented and carefully converted to a comfortable standard with all the necessary kitchen, dining, sitting and leisure room areas. All this work was done under the guidance of Dr. Pat Gracie, whose brainchild it was ,and his steering committee on which I served. The Preston branch of the store was always a bright friendly place ,the main grocery supplier in the locality, and very well frequented by the locals. It was always busy, bustling with life and staffed with friendly helpful people. Today this description still fits, thanks to the careful running by Coordinators Julie Aitken, Fiona Smith. and Ann Donaldson. A management committee, expertly Chaired by Dr Brenmer, meets four times a year and attends to the overall running, rents, grants etc.
Here is a picture of the coordinators mentioned above. Julie, Fiona, and Ann in that order. These three ladies do a tremendous job and you only have to sit in the sitting room area when every one is present. clients, staff, and the voluntary helpers,to see and feel the admiration and gratitude shown for the three.
