Dear Betty
Following last week's sad news about George, I am writing to convey the condolences of UNISON nationally to you and the rest of your family at this difficult time.
All of us who knew George understand the impact which he made in the Labour Party, NUPE and UNISON and how much he will be missed by all his friends and colleagues.
George had that rare gift of being a leader who was truly representative of his members and his community. The intensity with which he spoke on their behalf made this abundantly clear. And he achieved all this by still exhibiting a great sense of humour.
I am sorry that I cannot be with you on Wednesday but I know that there will be a tremendous turnout from the union to say goodbye to someone who was so important to all of us.
